Every week, a Perkins-powered generator shows up on my test bench. Maybe it’s an 80 kVA standby set for a small factory. Maybe it’s a 220-volt portable generator someone uses for a construction site. The owner’s story is almost always the same: “It ran fine last time. Now it won’t start.”

  • Diagnose in order. Fuel pressure, filter, electrical, then pump. That simple sequence will save you a lot of regret—and a lot of money.
